Exposures

As I hadn’t picked up my camera in a little while, I wanted to try something new with it this weekend. A couple of my friends take some incredible photographs of the stars and I was inspired to try and take my own shots.

I tried to find the darkest spot I could, somewhere out towards Mission about an hours drive from Vancouver. We were initially going to shoot at Allouette lake (see picture of Ellie below standing in front of it) but you have to camp to be there at night so this wasn’t an option as we hadn’t packed for it.

So After driving for a few hours to find the right spot, we pulled over, I set up the camera super quickly and took 5 or 6 shots of varying exposures. The settings were somewhere around ISO 1600 F/4 20-30 second exposure. I used a Hanel GIGA-T Pro Wireless Intervalometer/Trigger to set the camera off.

This was the best shot I got. You’ll notice there is a tiny black blob towards the lower third on the right hand side, an aeroplane flew through my shot, which i decided to take out because it made the image feel cleaner. I used my 17mm lens which isn’t the sharpest when its at F/4 so the telegraph pole isn’t as super crisp as I wanted it, next time ill use my 24-70 F/2.8 II.

Not my greatest ever work, but always nice to try new techniques.
