FIFA21 Reveal - Hero

So this post is a long time coming. 

Back in April, I was about 6 hours from getting on an aeroplane to Paris. I’m pleased I didn’t get on that aeroplane as I could have been stuck there for a considerably long amount of time. I was planning to go shoot with Kylian Mbappe for the FIFA21 cover. I had lenses hired, cameras packed and was very excited and just like that, it was all gone.

We had to move to plan B. 

I needed to write a creative that would work within our time frame, within the lens of FIFA21 - Win As One, and also within all the COVID19 restrictions/lockdowns. 

I wrote a creative that worked for all of these things. It turned into my biggest project to date. I was promoted to be Associate Creative Director for FIFA. My first AAA real world video project. It involved presenting to multiple groups, working with external directors and producers, zoom calls all through the night and weeks upon weeks of late nights.

This project was a monster. 5 Videos, 2 months, 4 International footballers. 

For this project, I helped select the director, Keane Shaw Pearce who I’d wanted to work with for a long time, he brought my idea to life. Cathy Hood, Keane’s producer was fantastic throughout. MPC, the post house made magic with the footage they had. Jazz Grant was the collage artists who made the super cool 2D visuals.

Bringing it all together was Andy Gillooley, Lead Creative Asset Producer on FIFA for EA. None of it would have happened without Andy!

Victor Fischer was the lead FIFA capture artists who made sure the game looked tiptop and helped me throughout the entire project, hats off to Victor.

I selected the music, edited the gameplay footage in all versions of the films, shot all the gameplay too. I helped design the thumbnail alongside the amazing Ravin Edrisi.

We could not attend the shoots with the players so we sent the footballers cameras and directed them over zoom as well as giving them free reign to shoot themselves in their down time. 

The video did well, 7 million views in the first 24 hours. 

This was not easy, at all. It’s not to everyones taste but to be brutally honest, I do not care. I made something I am proud of in a time of the most bizarre circumstances, along with all the usual FIFA/game restrictions.
