Filters

New year, New skills. I’ve taught myself to create instagram filters! Using a piece of software called Spark AR Studio which is created by Facebook (the owners of Instagram), I’ve created two filters so far. The first one I created was a Star Wars inspired one after I watched the Mandolorian over the holidays. Using an FBX file, a face mesh & face tracker, I was able to place a helmet  onto the users face and track it so that you could see either side of the helmet as the user turns their head!

I sent it to a few friends to try out, Here’s my friend sam enjoying it.

I made a second filter that was a bit more on trend with the current selfie culture. This is a retoucher filter with some lights in the scene that react to a face mesh. I used my experience with the frostbite engine to use ‘patch’ controls (like schematics) to program the lights to rotate on a constant loop.

Here’s Ellie checking out how the filter works.
