Quarry Rock

This weekend was a mix bag. It was tough dealing with the news from home, but we wanted to make the most of the weather and our new home. On the Saturday, we took the sky train to Robson St and explored that neighbour hood, which is fantastic for shopping, eating and relaxing.

After Robson, we strolled down to Coal Harbour & I had planned to shoot a 360 image just using my 5D and the widest lens I own (17-40 f4).

Shooting was pretty easy, I waited for minimal movement, and measured about 30% overlap in the 9 images i took by eye. This seemed to work pretty well when i brought it back into Lightroom and stitched them together. Although it took me a while to find a good platform to upload these images too, It was just a matter of lining the edges up and compensating for the auto adjustments Lightroom makes when stitching.

Here is my first attempt at a 360’ (more like 180’ as its only a horizontal axis you can move on) image (including the flat image below).

I thought I could make a better 360 image by using the in camera spirit level so that the edges would match up better, so we headed out on Sunday morning to Deep Cove. We took to the Baden Powell Trail to the top of Quarry Rock. This was a beautiful hike through an incredible forest which took about 1.5 hours to reach Quarry Rock’s peak.

After waiting for minimal movement in the shot, I quickly span around and shot 7 images this time and kept the camera as straight as possible, I think this is a better attempt, the stitch line is much less obvious than the first.

Here is the 360 image from Quarry Rock. (Flat Image Below)

Here are some bonus images from the walk.
